1. Get Ready – GEO Is Here

Just when we were starting to feel like we’d mastered SEO, the digital landscape shifted again. If you’ve spent the last few years optimizing your content to rank high on Google, you’re not alone. But there’s a new acronym in town — and it’s going to change how you structure and optimize your web pages and social content.

Welcome to the era of GEO: Generative Engine Optimization.

What Is GEO?

As described by MailChimp:

“GEO is all about aligning your content with how AI-driven search engines generate responses. Unlike traditional search engine optimization, which relies heavily on keyword research and meta tags, GEO methods dive deeper into understanding user intent and behavior. The goal is to create content that fits seamlessly into AI-generated responses, providing comprehensive answers that match what users are looking for.”

In simpler terms: SEO helps you show up in search results. GEO helps you become the answer AI tools choose to surface.

2. Preparing Your Content for Memorial Day

Memorial Day is right around the corner. As you craft your content to recognize the day (or stay silent), here’s a reminder from The EO Report archives about the reason for the holiday.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance to honor those who died in service to the United States.

3. The One Thing

Each week, we’ll share one task that takes about five minutes to complete and can make an impact on your communications strategy.

Your Task This Week: Make your content plans for Memorial Day.

A few things to consider: Will your brand or organization do a post? Will you refrain from posting that day? Are you open or closed? Should you post something on Friday to remind people about your hours?

4. Before We Go…

  • From Futurism: Facebook allegedly detected when teen girls deleted selfies so it could serve them beauty ads.

  • From USA Today: Saying 'please' and 'thank you' to ChatGPT costs millions of dollars, CEO says.

  • From The Drum: Jimmy Fallon bets on marketing with On Brand – a new NBC reality show for the ad age.

  • From Mediaite: YouTube just released its first-ever podcast charts. Look at who’s on top.

  • And, just for laughs (or maybe tears):
